There was a thread on camshaft removal a week or so ago. The outcome of the post was that the crankshaft throws can interfere with cam removal. I don't know this for a fact, but it might be something to be aware of. The remedy would be to rotate the crank to a neutral position.

Be careful to support the cam as you slide it out or you can hit a cam bearing. | | |
