I'm finishing up some interior stuff on my 4+ year restoration project. I installed the heater assembly and went to hook up new heater hose to the defroster ducts. My heater has 2 outlets: the passenger side exhaust duct measures 1 3/4" OD and the drivers side exhaust duct measures 2". The hose I purchased will fit the 1 3/4" side fine but not the 2". I seem to remember that the hoses are secured by a rubber collar and no clamps. If this is the case I'm missing a collar for the 2". Does anyone have a pic of this set up and where can I find a collar? Or am I stuck with fabricating one? I took 400+ pics of the truck during disassembly but don't have one of the heater/duct hoses. Thanks.

I had the same problem and wound up just splitting the hose and securing it with a wire wrap and black gaffers tape. Of course, if you're doing a restoration this wouldn't be correct.

On my '54 AirFlow heater, 1-3/4 ID cloth hose fit over both outlet ports of the defroster at the heater and over the passenger duct. The hose fit INSIDE the driver duct. I believe (?) that I have seen pics of a rubber collar that secures the hoses, but I'm not sure. Collars are not mentioned in the '51 and '54 Accessories Installation Manual.

EDIT - - - I just checked the Accessories Manual again:
> The '51 Manual does not mention collars or bushings.
> The '54 Manual has the same instructions as the '51 Manual, but modified the diagram by adding an arrow to both ends of the drivers hose with the word "BUSHING". Don't know if a bushing was also used with the passenger side. Wonder if the drivers hose was 2" ID?

FWIW - I purchased cloth hose from Chevs of the 40's. It is sold in 36" sections. I needed a little less than three feet of hose to the driver's vent, but needed more than the remainder for the passenger vent. So I used the old plastic hose that was on the truck when I bought it for the passenger vent. PO secured the hoses with duct tape. I didn't secure the hoses. The drivers cloth hose has stayed in place. The plastic hose came loose from the passenger vent. I jammed it back on. May need to secure. Don't know if plastic vs. cloth contributed to it coming loose. I've only used the defroster once, so I don't know if continued use at "heater temp" will cause them to blow off.

Congrats on being able to see the finish line on your restoration!

For my harrison H-02-47 I used an original heater hose for the drivers side, and a repo for the passenger.
Both fit over the duct, I never noticed a diameter difference.

I didnt find any duct bushings, or ties
Here are a few pic's from the internet

my 52 Fresh Air Heater had the original "bushings" on it. I think I got my bushings (rubber sleeves) from JCArter or Classic Parts. Heres a pic that might help. It only shows one "snout" but both use the same rubber sleeve. Got any thick wide rubber bands? lOl

Been thinkin' 'bout the differences in your '50 defroster and my '54 defroster ...

> Was the original hose to your drivers vent 2" ID, and the hose to the passenger vent 1-3/4" ID? I guess this would conpensate for the longer run. Note: Jim Carter has 2" ID cloth defroster hose. Part #MEH225 Listed as 1954-66. Phone to confirm.

> Is the inlet on your drivers vent 2" OD?

> Since both of my '54 defroster outlets on the heater are 1-3/4" OD, looks like the '54 should only need one bushing (if they were used to adjust the size of the openings) Either to reduce the 2" OD driver vent to attach a 1-3/4" ID hose; or to reduce a 2" ID drivers side hose to attach to the 1-3/4" OD defroster outlet on the heater. If the bushings were to change the mating diameters, then there is still no reference in the Manuals on how to attach the hose to the vents and to the heater.

Anybody know if the '54 used two different diameter hoses?

Since I brought it up, here is the hookup in the '54 Accessories Manual.
