I'm looking at a parts engine and no amount of wire brushing has exposed the casting number in the expected location (just in front and below distributer in sidemount area) Best guess is that this is around 53-54 235 truck engine. Egine attached to floor shift four speed. No head. Engine id # appears to be 00I2251F54X. Trying to figure out if this engine has a flywheel with an 10 3/4 inch clutch.

I think the no. is supposed to be just above the starter location but mine says something like CON 54 A. I did decode my engine id# somewhat and so here's a little info for you:
the F54X tells you it was made in Flint, MI, it is a '54 235 block, the X means a standard shift but that's about all I can come up with. Hope this helps a little. | | |

What is the block casting number that is at the upper right of the starter.

Don't recall a casting number right of the starter. Believe there was just a "GM". Can't look, it is in a pile of junk engines behind a machine shop and closed for the weekend. Pretty well figure it must be a 54 and will not have the 42-53 flywheel that I am looking for with a 10 3/4 inch clutch. The search continues.
