I'm looking for some pics of what the bed wood ,and the strips looked like from the factory in 1964.
I was told it was a black color, maybe painted or oiled.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chris

A bit faded, but original

Per the factory literature, the factory-correct, original bed coating was a proprietary mixture of black paint and creosote.

Freshly refinished in oil-base primer & oil-base exterior flat black paint

There was a bit more gloss to the wood and the steel runners, on the factory originals. Still looks good way better than all the unpainted floors everyone seems to do.

This may have some info.

Also Carter truck has info about bed wood, in the catalog.

Mine is all original. Not particularly pretty, but all original.

Thanks Revoh, Thats what I was looking for. I would love to find a way to get mine to look like that.
I don't want it to look like a shiney new floor. Not that there is anything wrong with that. It would just make the rest of my truck look bad.

Thanks Again.

Chris

I have an all-original, un-restored truck with excellent bed wood. check my photobucket page the for bed pictures. click to get them full size for better detail. Again, this is the factory finish.
