Hi everyone, bonjour a tous!
Late last fall my neighbor died and left to is sons is 2 trucks. Is sons were not interested by the truck so Monday one of them sold me the 2 trucks for peanuts and a good handshacke. Obviously I will talk here only about the Chevy. It is a maple leaf 1700 and from what I could understand from the vin it is a 1952 3 ton with a 235 engine. It was still running 3 years ago.
From what I have read on maple leaf truck up to now is even tough they are tagged Chevy, they are made with GMC parts right? Did GMC have made 235 engine, 235.5 or 236? I am a bit confuse here. Is that a good motor and work on it or already check for a better more reliable engine? More question to come...sorry...

Thank very much everyone and sorry for my bad english speaking.

Welcome to the Stovebolt site. Those are a couple of real nice trucks to save.
Keep the questions coming, somebody on here will be able to give you a good answer.
As for the English and spelling, this is an International site and the people here will help you out.

Hy Mathieu, welcome, all my research on Maple Leaf trucks leads me to believe that they were only made up to 1950. The two and a half tons [16 series] were powered by Chevy engines, but from 1939 to 1950 the three tons [17 series] were powered by GMC full precision bearinged engines, the 248 being the standard engine. Maple Leaf trucks did not have a special serial number, but were the two largest Canadian produced Chevrolets, the 16 series [2 1/2 ton], and the 17 series [3 ton], these trucks used many parts normally associated with GMCs, Motor wheels, rather than Kelsey wheels being the most obvious. The way I usually describe a 3 ton Maple Leaf to someone who knows nothing about them is to say that they are basically a GMC truck, with Chevrolet front end sheet metal, hope that helps.

Bonjour Mathieu!

You'll want to catch up with Lieut DGoss in the Stovebolt VFD Depending on where in La Belle Province you are, he might be close (Lac Brome area?)

I grew up in Georgeville quebec

Bienvenu!

Thank you all.
I still haven't figure if I will put her back as a firebolt (if I can find the parts) or transform her in an other model. One of the son told me that is father had "dumper box" (don't know if it is the right words to use, sorry)that come with the truck.

I'm going to say it's a '52 model judging from the vent glass, & push button door handles. I've seen in a few publications where '52 was the last year for the recognized Maple Leaf emblemed trucks. One was a color catalog I got from Autolit.com, & the other was a story in a past ATHS Wheels Of Time magazine.

Took my first run with it last week, went to see my cousin few miles away. No break, no rear light, no plate but a lot of fun. It run like a new. I think I'm seriously falling in love with that truck.

Quick question for all of you, obviously from the GMC emblem cast on my valve cover my motor is a GMC, the question is which one. The engine number on the vin plate (on the driver door) is G35965. The casted number on the engine block driver side in the midle of the block : 6107328, still on the driver side but totally on the left writhed upside-down: 6743, again on the driver side in the middle, in small print : J73. According to this site: 3W.adchevy.com/tools/castinglookup/?castingnumber=6107328&submit=Lookup# it would be a 248 1953. Is this information reliable?
