Hi Everybody,
I have a two part question. I have a 235 with a vintage glass bowl fuel filter. The truck runs well when warm. Pretty ragged untill it heats up. Should the glass bowl be full to the top? Also what pressure is the fuel comming out of the pump at? I was given a "fuel o filter" from a 49? it limits the fuel to a 2 PSI max I thought I might use it instead of the one I have installed Thanks Jimmie.

I believe the book lists the fuel pump pressure as 3--4 lbs at the carburetor. I'm not sure why the bowls don't always fill...maybe it's a air bubble deal, but I have had rigs run forever with the bowl partially full.

Thanks for the info on pressure. My truck runs fine it just seems that the bowl should be full. Whos knows maybe it is a syphon or a vacuum/evaporation thing. I am no fluid dynamics expert by any means 8-) Jimmie.

If you see fuel it's getting fuel if pump is good.Just an air bubble, it's always there. Has nothing to do with delivery of the amount of fuel.

is the exhaust heat damper working? Maybe its stuck open and its not heating up quick enough?? Edit:...what about the choke?

fuel level in carb is set with float,,fuel bowel gas level should not be to top of bowel some where around 3/4...as far as cold running check heat rise for proper operation....doc

You don't give the year of your truck, but if you have a manual choke and are used to an automatic choke or fuel injection, you may have trouble getting used to it. I give the engine full choke and pull the throttle out far enough to keep the revs up on the first start on a cold morning and immediately push the choke all the way in so as not to wash down the cylinder walls. I do use the choke as needed to prevent bucking when going through the gears with a cold engine, so I look a little busy shifting then pulling the choke out, accelerating, pushing choke in, giving arm signal, shifting, pulling choke out, etc, until the engine warms up.

I won't qualify until a new born today reaches legal drinking age, but I'm working at it. None of that foo-foo stuff like latte, but I can still send other messages with arm signals!

I left out the part about having to roll the window down for the OEM signals to be operational.

It has been a while, so here goes. Doc41 the bowl is on the external filter, I have a new carter YF that is adjusted. I am used to a manual choke, with the throttle control. As for the last few posts here is my thoughts--- coffee is black and hot. The hotter the better adding anything to it turns it into something else. The original turn signals are to cold to use here in colorado in the winter, and the only digital appliance in my truck is the middle finger. That usually conveys my message well enough. GRIN Jimmie.
