| | | | Joined: Jul 2010 Posts: 91 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2010 Posts: 91 | Well I'm trying to get my "new" 46 Chevy 2-ton running well enough to get it on a trailer and drug home. That is becoming a bit of a chore as the engine (a 1950 216) has neither fuel or spark.
The lack of ZAP has been traced to a bad coil and it appears to be impossible to find a replacement for the original steel unit with the ceramic bottom where the coil wire to the distributor cap connects and the mounting bracket spot-welded on. The coil all the parts stores show is a more "modern" version. Heavy dielectric plastic with the cap wire connecting to the top. Suggestions?
The fuel pump looks an awful lot like one of the dozen or so I have to fit various small-block chevys. Can a SBC pump be used on this 216 or will I have to use a pump specifically for a 216?
I'm not wanting to come off as cheap, I just don't want to put much money into this engine as I don't plan on keeping it in there once I get it home. It just needs to run well enough to keep the truck mobile until the engine swap is performed.

I can't count the number of vehicles I've loaded onto a trailer with a cable come-along and some sweat equity! There are also small battery-powered winches, and with a couple of snatch blocks and a long piece of cable, they will handle that truck with ease.

| | | | | Joined: Jul 2010 Posts: 91 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2010 Posts: 91 | I was gonna do the gravity feed/siphon trick for the gas but the carb is taller than most points of the truck and nothing really to lash the bottle to while I drive lol. The trailer I'm using has a 12,000 lb winch already on it. Getting the truck on isn't a problem, (though I'd just as soon drive it up under it's own power). It's getting it off the trailer and then keeping it self-mobile, so I can move it around the property until the engine swap can be performed.
UPDATE: I now have SPARK! I got a coil off on old Allis Chalmers WD-40 tractor that was at the farm the truck is sitting (with the owners permission of course)and it fit right in place of the OEM original. The old gentleman offered it, so long as I put it back on the AC after the 216 is removed.

A pick up or even a car can pull it around the property. Doesn't sound to me like you really have a problem. Those will come when you begin taking it apart. Thats also when the fun begins. | | |
