I have a 2000 Trans Am disk rear end with 3.42 gears. I am also going with a Small block 350 and a TH400 transmission. Please give me any input/opinions you all may have. Should i do it? Thanks in advance. http://community.webshots.com/user/1951GMC | | |

If you need the strength of the TH400 you might want to consider a 9-inch Ford rear instead of the Trans Am rear.
My two cents...

Just my 2 cents

OldSub: The reason im going with the 400 is because it came with the engine. I also have a stock 9"rear end from a late 70's Lincoln but i think it would be to much of a mess for me to cut it to size and make it a posi. What do you think worth the trouble?
wilbur: the 700 r4 was my first "want" but i cant seem to find one that is going for a reasonable price. what do you think is a good price for one.
the bottom line is that the parts that i have mentioned is what i have available to me. and when it comes down to it. it all has to do with money (lol)
guys please keep your opinions or thoughts coming i welcome them all.
thank you | | |

You want something about 62 inches wide. The 9 inch is the strongest car type rear out there and would be more consistent with that TH400... And late 70's the gears are probably gas mileage friendly too.

Those disc brakes will bolt right up to a 10 bolt Camaro rear late 70s early 80s. Good Luck and keep your tape measure working.
