Thinking of buying 1954 3100.
Engine is painted blue and has NEW BLUE FLAME 136 on valve cover.

Is this engine an original engine? Engine code from block has a 1955 year.

A 1955 dated engine would not have been used in 1954.

1954/55 truck engines were originally painted gray and car engines were painted blue (rebuilt/repainted engines could be painted any color).

Here are locations of various codes on engines - some locations might be different in different years and on cars vs trucks.

Post the block and head casting codes, the block and head date casting codes, and the engine serial number/ID. People will help to ID the engine.

If it is a true Blueflame 136, it would be for a passenger car with Powerglide transmission and have hydraulic lifters. I believe that a Thriftmaster would be the correct engine for the truck.

I agree this engine is from passenger car...wanted truck to be numers matching matching but it's not.

Considering buying truck?
Owner should have rebuilt original engine and not cut hole in dash for radio.

I agree....owner made big mistake replacing original engine and cutting hole in dash. Might not buy.

That should not distract you. Most will never know that it is incorrect for your truck. The engine will be quieter and you will have more horsepower Paint the engine grey and remove the blueflame decal and replace it with a Thrisftmaster decal. The dash can be repaired with available patch panels.
