Hiya, ive a 1953 Chevy panel truck, and am doing a Patricks rear end kit,

all is going fine, im just not sure what lubrication to put in both the rear end and the gearbox. (its an original 3 speed on the colum./)

can someone help as the "operators manual" states not to use straight mineral oil in Hypoid rear axles, but ive look into some things on here and they say use mineral?

also some stuff about brass bushes in the gear box getting worn / damaged if i dont put the correct lub in?

thankyou, Dan

The mineral oil is for a transmission with a Borg-Warner overdrive. Your transmission can use hypoid gear oil. That is for the differential also.

GL-5. Practically everything meets GL-5 anymore. You can use it in the trans. & rear end.

You will want the same type oil in both. Like in a previous post some of the trans grease will likely leak back into the diff.
