I have not seen an engine number like this and can find no info...I thought I already did this once but am finding it hard to decipher this. Thanks for any help.

The number you gave R21846UTAH sounds like it may be a vehicle identification number given out by the UTAH DMV. Is this on the milled flat area next to the distributer and stamped instead of cast? Is this the same number on your title?
You are looking for a number that is cast into your engine block near the distributor.

Hmmm...but yes, my silly mistake...this number is stamped not cast, right on the flat area behind the dist.. I will clean it up a bit better and look again.

Thanks The original engine serial number would have been stamped, not cast in that same location. A replacement engine would have had no serial number, allowing the engine/block to be stamped when used as a replacement in a state that registered (and/or titled) a truck using the engine serial number. GMONIZ's suggestions seems very reasonable. What is the ID on your title/registration (it could be an engine ID/serial-number or the vehicle/cab ID/serial-number)? | | |
