Have a 65 Chevy C-10, recently replaced steerin' box and would like ta' know what the life expectancy of rag joint is?? Know that bein' a pretty broad question what with the type divin' one does, but just lookin' for a "ball park figure". Pre-thanks are in order. ~Skip

I have never replaced a rag joint. I think a close inspection would be the best thing to do, If it looks questionable at all replace it, but I have never seen one fail.

The newer rag joints have a pin feature that even if the rag tears away, won't leave you without steering.

Normally, a rag joint will begin to take on a frayed appearance before it needs replacing. I've found that a trip to the junkyard can save you a few bucks if you are so inclined. Most bad joints that I've seen have been on 4 WD vehicles with over-sized tires. If your C-10 joint isn't tattered and frayed, I'd say you're good to go.

Personally, would be more concerned with the brake system. Just my $.02.

Usually they last 10 years or so but if they get oil on them or are close to the exhaust they can be short lived. Like Fla54 says if they opperate at a heavy angle they will wear out sooner.
