When doing a factory two-tone, my hood will be white on the top side, What color was the underside? White also or or semi-gloss black? The underhood brace bars are semi-gloss I believe also.

The entire engine bay was underhood black or somewhere between matte black & satin black, with the exception of the firewall, which was the main body color.

Eastwood has a very nice rattle-can black, called underhood black, that is great for this application.

Not all firewalls were body color, some were the inside of cab color depending on what plant they came from.

I have seen (mine included) the firewall painted the light fawn. I just sanded mine and the fawn was original to the truck - included truck colored overspray among other evidence. As far as the literature - I searched many sources and could not find any mention of firewall color. My guess is that sometimes/ someplaces painted the firewall with whatever was left.

Tony of all the trucks you have bought over the years you have never seen this and you figure the book only states body color then thats all they would have came with was body color on firewall . THE 60 I have was never redone and it had a silver firewall as well as my 62 k-20. My 64 c-60 all original when i bought it had a fawn firewall. This subject was brought up at the 67-72 website. There are several pics of unmolested trucks there with pics of color of firewall both ways.

It seems like the east coast trucks had the fawn firewalls, IIRC.

My '65 has original body-color firewall, and was built in Maryland, I believe. PO worked on hood some, can't tell about that.

One of my 61's had the Silver firewall. 2 other 61's had body color FW's. One of the body colored was from Janesville, WI plant.

On the non-body color firewalls, where are the paint-breaks, that transition the firewall color from the main body color. From an efficiency standpoint, during assembly, it makes sense, that the interior color stopped at the jambs, windshield lip & back glass lip. Although not impossible, it would be highly unlikely that the interior color wrapped around the "A" pillar and across the firewall, since there would be a great deal of masking required, to transition the interior color at the firewall, to the adjacent surfaces, which then become the main body color.

In my travels, I have never seen an unmolested cab, that has the interior color transitioned across the firewall. Perhaps it was done on the early trucks, say '60-'61...

If I read something from the Trucks Sales Data Book or The Silver Book, I usually take it literally. Especially, since most of the literature is original and published before I was born. Learn something new, every day.

I guess the book needs to be redone with the things that have been left out.

I figger they painted the whole cab interior & firewall fawn, then added the body color @some plants-if you look at a bare cab it would be easy to drape off the firewall. I also theorize they painted two tone truck cabs white, then added the lower color-I have seen firewall markings indicating "ivory" or "two tone" on many trucks, also found white paint under the body color.

I'm sure things were different from plant to plant-most of mine have been St Louis built trucks, but the burb is from Fremont-I notice a big difference in spot welds, both the number of welds & quality.

over @the 67-72 board there are pics of many fawn firewall 60-66 trucks, i have only seen one IRL though.

Find the Truck Painting Regulations. I have never seen the ones for Chevy Trucks, but have for GMC's. They spell out what gets painted what and don't seem to leave any room for artistic license on the part of the the assembly plants.

All three of my 1966 Lakewood (Atlanta) trucks had fawn firewalls.
