Any ideas on doing a headliner on my truck. The cardboard headliner they sell sucks. Thanks.

You see quite a few trucks with upholstered panels. Some of the vendors sell a one-piece fiberglass liner that can be painted. There is a thread going on this right now on the interiors forum.

Over the years I have had good luck covering the cardboard
headliners with the foam backed fabric headliner material that is sold
on Ebay and other places on the internet.

NO special skills; just good scissors, 3M upholstery adhesive, and a little time.

I know this is not the popular answer, but here goes...

Two days ago I put in a new cardboard headliner I purchased from JC. I followed the instructions found in the Stovebolt Tech Tips. It went in without any issues and it fits fine. I made one mistake that caused a problem, but that was my mistake. Other than that, it fits and looks perfect.

Just my two cents.

I also installed a cardboard headliner from Chevy Duty in my 50 about 5 years ago and I think it fit-up good - and looks good.

Are you guys using the metal trim that goes arround the back? What holds the front and sides? Is there somewhere that tells you how to install the head liner? My 1952 GMC did not have a headliner when I bought it so there is no hardware. I need help. Thanks.

On the AD chevys you need the metal on the back. The door windlass holds it in place on the sides. In the front the windshield garnish trim hold it in place.

GMC's are called AD's as well and the headliners for each year interchange between Chevy and GMC.

You might check the swap meet area for needed parts. Several bolters are parting out trucks.

1947-1955 GMC trucks were called New Design Trucks (Chevrolet trucks during the same period were called Advance-Design Trucks). As stated above, the A-D and ND headliners were the same shape (for the same years) but I do not know about the headliner colors always being the same between Chevrolet and GMC trucks of the same year.

Another approach to the evil headliner installation.
I read everything on this after ruining one set of cardboard liners.
I gave the front liner a light spray of Windex (didn't want to buy ammonia just for that) installed the centre bow on the front headliner on the bench, clamped it and left if overnight.
The next day I removed the clamps and put a piece of duct tape to hold it in place. Then I installed the rear liner (no spray needed) and taped them together with duct tape.
I took the whole headliner in one piece and popped in it place. It took about 2 minute and went in beautifully.
