I have a 56 gmc with 316 pontiac engine.1. should the throttle control piece be back nearly against the fire wall when under full throtle?

2. Does the entiire linkage seem to appear to work in reverse i.e. -full thrott headscratchle control is being pushed backwrd? thanks

Let me look through our shop. We still have a Pontiac 316 dual quad manifold here some where too. We had a bunch of those in our old '56 NAPCO GMC fire engines. But to help right now, yes but not hitting the firewall. It should have enough space to allow the Movement of the engine under acceleration to move and not be impeded by hitting that firewall with the throttle wide opened.

Yes, the pontiac 2bbl throttle linkage pulls toward the firewall. I reused most of the stock linkage when I installed the trip deuces on my 59 GMC.
