Hey guys. Ok I just got my truck back to the house this weekend, Yay now I can start working on it. The engine I have is a 58-62 chevy 235. How do you separae the standard trans from the engine? I have the two outside bolts off how do you get to the two inside?

To get to the other two bolts, the cover on the bottom of the bellhousing has to be removed. It's only 4 1/4-20 slotted screws, should come off easily. The bolt heads are easily accesable one the cover is removed.

The bottem two may be hidden by 40yrs of grease, you may have to dig.

Thanks guys, I got it, Lucky for me the motor is out of the truck and I wound up removing the clutch plate and flywheel to get to the bolts. Yeah I know it was probably the hard way. At least now I have it mounted to the stand and I can start breaking it down.

Just curious... Did you mount the engine to the stand using the bell housing?
My first time too and that's what I ended up doing.

If you're trying to mount a stovebolt engine to a stand with the bellhousing attached, that makes it terribly front-heavy. Take the bellhousing off, and use the bolt holes in the back of the block to attach the rotary head of the stand. A student at a high school where I used to teach nearly lost some toes when a 235 with the bellhousing on it tipped over forward, stand and all.

I concur the CG is better up close to the vertical support.
The bell housing definitely pushes the CG farther out, the depth of the housing. I extended the legs on my stand to compensate.
Actually this has worked for me, since I used the flywheel to turn the engine for putting in the pistons and setting up my timing. I was more concerned with the strength of the bolts holding onto the bell housing...
I DO appreciate your concern. Pray for me, I'm almost finished with the entire assembly!
