'52 3100. I have a leaking fuel shut off valve (pet cock) and am wondering if there is any reason to keep the darn thing? What would be wrong (except not keeping it original)with just cutting the thing off and using a gas rated rubber fuel line? I really can't tell how it's attached either. If I should keep it, does anyone sell them new, or a rebuild kit? Thanks for any helpful info.

I purchased a new one from Jim Carters and it worked great, I understand about keeping it original. But the new shut-off and rubber flex hose is a perfect match to the old ones.

Do you have a fuel filter?
if so, is it before or after the pump?

no fuel filter-yet. Just installing engine. Fuel line only hooked up from shut off valve to pump. Line from pump to carb blocked off. This leak started when I replaced the fuel pump and then reopened the shut off valve. Probably just going to replace the valve. Does anyone know how it is attached to the tube coming from the fuel tank? Treaded tube maybe?

If your valve looks like this
...pic...
it threads to the bottom of the tank.
pipe threads

if it leaks at the stem it can be repaired by adding packing under the gland nut.
Just cut a small piece of graphite rope packing. Add it and tighten down the nut.

In my 50 the fuel line goes to a flex hose. Flex hose to valve to allow for movement of the cab.

I got my fuel tank shutoff at the local NAPA...had it in stock. Sorry, can't find the Weatherhead part number, but it's 1/8" pipe into tank and 1/4" compression on side.

mine on the 6100 leaked, so i put a o ring that fit inside the nut and so far it isnt leaking. on the ashton and the 40 i put a ball valve on and teed off after the valve. one end goes to the fuel filter and the other end is plugged so if i have to draw some gas off i can.

Is your gas tank new?

I bring this up because some advanced design after market new tanks have metric threads on the bottom.

Original would be 1/4 pipe (I think).

while a shutoff valve isn't a bad Idea, you won't find one on your newer vehicles. I guess If I had one I would mount it in the rear (like race vehicles) It wouldn't do much good under the hood where you would expect fire.
