As I was shopping around for some chrome bits that need replacing on my '51, I noticed that the hood ornament on my truck, while a chev piece that is period correct, dose not seem to be specifically chevy truck item.

Can anyone tell me what vehicle this is originally belonged to?

So far all I'm finding is that its generic for 49-52 sedans.

Did these ever come on trucks?

Its funny, I've been thru about half of the +4000 images in 'Advance Design GM Trucks' Flickr pool this morning and I've actually seen more with the ornament I have than what's supposed to be the actual offered option.

you think fads are a new invention? wink
are you seeing them on vintage photos of trucks or pics of currently owned/restored trucks? any option was rareish at the time because these were work trucks - although some owners back in the day may have decided adding a "personal touch" with something they could scrounge was cool, nowadays folks use what they can find to "restore" to their preference, and the car hood ornament was standard on every one of the millions made over a number of years - happens to fit the curve of the truck hood well

All restorods and ratrods. Most of the trucks in the flickr pool have no ornament at all as you suggested. If anything, they have the center strip chromed.

Pretty cool. I learned something this morning. smile

According to what I found on the Old Chevy Manual Project web page that hood orniment is an older orniment. The 51 car orinment is a styleized Impala. The 51 to 53 54? orniment is similar, but is flattened, and squared off. That orniment maybe a car orniment, but it sticks in my mind as a prior year truck orniment. Someone with better resources, can feel free to correct my observations.

I remember this topic from before. It was believed that this ornament was dealer installed. I have seen it on more than I can count. It was not the one that Chevrolet offered for the truck, but more of a generic one that the dealers put on. There must of been a lot of them in the dealers, because in the last three or four years I have seen 50-100 of them in NOS condition for sale on ebay.

Checkint Dakota's link, I saw the ornament for the '50s GMC looked a lot as the one for the Chevy '51. This is mine Hood Ornament . Guess is more Chevy than GMC, since I've seen GMC airplanes with bigger wings rather than the one showed. What do you think?

I didn't see it on Tail Light King but your description of it fits perfectly, right down to the two mounts ... all the others I've seen are three or more.

I believe not all cars had a hood ornament installed.
My 48 Chevy Fleetmaster 4 door sports sedan was 100% original when I got her and she did not have an ornament
