I have a 1954 4100 N, What is a good souce for part numbers. I bought a few books on ebay but none of them list the part numbers. Also, what would be a good part number exchange book for the heavy duty trucks
Thanks

Hy pghblacksmith, you need a parts book that covers your truck year and model/size. As to the "exchange" book, I assume you mean an interchange book, Napa's website has an interchange feature that you can use once you have the o.e.m. part number, in our case GM part numbers. Rock Auto's website can cross numbers from other parts suppliers. And there is a massive book called the Hollander interchange which wrecking yards usually have, but they are very expensive, and each book covers only a few years range. For our trucks you would be looking for a very old issue, hope that helps.

Don't know if this has been posted before -- You can search this site for GM part numbers that may apply to multiple GM cars and trucks.
GMPartsWiki

The sites have NOS, used, and repro parts listed by original GM part number:

American Classic sells an interchange manual of parts numbers in their literature section for 1/2ton to 1 ton trucks.

Look it up under your year model to see if it applies or not.

For the big bolts, you'll prolly have to hit the swap meets, auction sites, etc..

So, peruse the vendor sites under: literature, books, manuals... etc..

Searching is all part of the aggravation of old trucks.

I apologize in advance if I am off base with this reply. If you want GM part numbers for 1954 truck parts, a Master Parts Catalog is a good place to start.

Those numbers would be of limited use today, unless you can find a modern cross-reference book/list. NAPA might have one and Rockauto.com has one (that has helped me several times).

GM Interchangeable Parts Catalogs contemporary to the year of manufacture are available used on eBay and on CD (on eBay). These show interchange of parts between GM car and truck models. But, these are not helpful for modern interchange numbers/codes.

Oh, for my 54/55 GMC 350 COE, 3B has been my best source for old and new part numbers (thanks).
