So I put a 250 in it with a 4 speed and made a driveshaft and put a 3:07 rear end in it for him and now he is wondering if I could sell the 216 engine for him. The truck only had 55,000 miles on it and he spent $400.00 on the head putting in new valves, etc. and only put about 100 miles on it after that, so it just purrs. Personally I wouldn't have changed it. Anyway, is there a big call for this engine and what is it worth? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,742 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,742 | Hmmmm- - - -a 60 year old engine with a fresh valve job. To someone who just wants a running 216, it's probably worth $300.00 or so. Completely rebuilt, with the insert rod bearing conversion and everything brought up to brand-new condition, it's worth somewhere in the $1500.00 range.
Finding a buyer who wants/needs one will be the trick. I've got four babbit-pounders ready to rebuild right now, plus a bunch of new replacement parts, but I doubt if I'll build one up until I have a buyer ready and waiting. Jerry
