Ok so the tail lights have always bothered me on my '51 half ton. Pretty sure the brackets are homemade and the lights are the universal auto store variety. There is not even a place to mount the rear plate, it is bolted below the tailgate.

Anyways I found (some) on ebay:

how do these look? Im finding 3 types of replacement lights, stainless, chrome, and chrome/ black. Im guessing the stock ones were chrome/ black W/ black brackets.

I am tempted to get the Stainless Steel version because after shipping an everything it is only $25 more expensive then the chrome/ black version. And that includes stainless brackets.

Which light set would you get? I Have a feeling the Stainless would last longer, I could even paint em black if I really wanted. Do you think the set I found on ebay is the best price im gonna find?

Thanks!

You can probably get a better deal with Jim Carter or American Classic truck Parts who is having a BIG SALE

American Classic

The brackets and the taillight assemblies are about $75 at Jim Carter. You should check the ACT site for their numbers as well.

Thanks for the replies. I understand the black chrome ones are $98 shipped, thats why I said the Stainless ones were $25 more. They are $125 free shipping.

I really only checked LMC truck, and their prices were about the same. I had emailed Jim Carter early in the week and he has still not gotten back to me. I like Jim Carter, met him at Fall Carlisle last year.

I will check American Classic Truck out, never heard of them before.

Anybody have a picture of there truck with the right tail lights on them? Also, should I consider "blue dots"?

Thanks again!

Thanks alot for the links. Dunno why I could not find that page before, But looks like Jim carter has the best prices. I think I will just give him a call tomorrow because looking around at all of the old chevy parts sites is just giving me a headache!

I really wish on the parts sites they listed 2 things: Who makes the part, and where the part is made. I will gladly pay more for a set of tail lights if they are stamped USA thumbs_up

Jim Carter is the real deal. Small town Ma and Pa shop that employs folks who actually work on their own bolts.

Wow dont know why I even looked anywhere else. I found a couple of his catalogues in my garage dated like 01. I bet that is where my dad got a new carb and other miscellanies things from right when he bought both trucks.

I also just read your truck "bio". Nice truck and awesome story! That 216 with a 4 spd really goes 70MPH? I cant get my '51 with the same drivetrain to go above 50! Maybe I have a lower gear ratio in the rearend? About to put some 235/75/R15's on (stock was 215/75/R15) so that should help a little.

On mine, who knows. It had crappy white paint on it when we bought it.
