I have a 1954 235 that I overhauled and it runs great. After 100 miles I re-adjusted the solid lifters I noticed very little oil getting to the valve or rocker tip. I would say it is almost dry. Is this normal? Oil is bubling out of the holes in the rockers and out of the overflow tube, but I cant see anything getting to the tip. I am used to seeing oil flip around everywhere like it does on my 350. I have 30+ lbs of oil pressure running 10w30 at a fast idle. I dont see any galling or scoring, but it sure makes me nervous.

These old six cylinder engines will not throw oil like their big brothers. What you are seeing is normal. The lube hole through the rocker shafts is on the bottom, so if you see oil bubbling out the top, you know it's doing its thing. Your oil pressure is great, and the 10w-30 will work fine. The old stovebolts will give you plenty of warning when they need attention...again, welcome.  Stuart | | |

This can be done while idling and with higher rpms to check flow at higher oil pressure.
If everything else is to spec, the rockers get just enough oil, but no so much that it splashes all over.
The valve guides also need only the slightest amount of oil. | | |

Like I said, I love the old engine and I would hate to wound it by doing something wrong. It taps a little here and there but I was told that pretty much all of the solid lifter engines will make a little more noise than a hydrolic engine. I think it gives the old engine some character! You want the rockers to tap a little, better to loose then tight to avoid burned exhaust valves | | |
