The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Old paint still good?

PPG omni au MTK 2k urethane paint, got 3 gallons of it that have been sitting 4 years in hot and cold (freezing) garage. Is it still usable with a good mixing? Haven't opened cans yet. Thanks for any info!

I would be more concerned about the age over the temp it was stored at unless the temp was well below 0. The warehouses paint is stored in normally aren't heated. A call to PPG customer service should answer your question factually.

If the paint was air tight, and never opened, You should be fine...Now, in enamel, if the paint has hardened, of course You pitch it...Lacquer, add thinner, and You can bring it back...If You are spot painting, then You more than likely went over on thinning the paint, and naturally have a mismatch...If a viscosity cup is used, You would be OK...22 seconds is the right mix..

Not if the paint has been frozen, sorry...Eric
