If I clean it...how would I go about that? If I replace it...where can I find one that would work under the seat like the original or how would I go about relocating the tank to another spot on the truck?

There are a number of products on the market. Another option if there is a radiator shop that will do it is to take it to a radiator shop & have them put it in their chemical tank. No shop around here will do that. If by cleaning you mean a lot of rust there are kits for derusting and coating the inside of the tank. I use Kreem on a motorcycle tank years ago with success. I restored the tank in my 38 using muriatic acid to remove the rust, brazed the larger holes then coated the inside with Redkote. Four years so far with no issues.

But I much prefer taking it to a raditor shop and having them boil it out and use the "red" sealer. Did my 50 Willys for $135. I will have them do my 49 Bus in a couple of weeks.

If you want to relocate it under the bed, you can purchase steel or poly tanks that locate to the rear of the axle for around $ 200. Some guys have also used tanks from assorted junk yard vehicles. Fillers can be located in the bed, or routed out the sides. Have a look at Chevs of the '40's, or Summit Racing Equipment for ideas. | | |
