I currently have the stock 4 speed which needs work.Converting to auto would be helpful since I live in San Diego. Buying small block next year, don't want to be down until then. Also, is there anything I need to know about switching from manual to auto? Thanks, Keenan p.s. it's a '48 chevy half ton. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,094 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,094 | no it will not.You can buy an adapter that will make it work though. See Langdons stovebolt engine company, he sells them .

Basically, you'll be changing the entire driveline system from the engine back. When you go to V-8 power, a lot of the previous modifications can be reused, so it won't be a totally wasted effort, but if I were given the choice, I'd to the whole swap now, rather than make two bites at it. Current fleet (subject to change w/o notice) \'49 GMC 3/4-Ton , 60 Austin Healey Frog-eye Sprite (some assembly required), 2011 Dodge Avenger, 2015 Jeep Cherokee. No, they don't all run. My other ride is a (B737)no, (B767)no, A320.... Update... was Embraer E190, now Boeing B787. Knowledge is a wonderful thing, but ignorance means you don't know you can't do something.
