Was just wondering if anyone has taken the big bolt AD front fenders and welded in the smaller 3100 wheel opening??

Going to take 1 of the 4800 cab and front clips, and put it on the 78 Chevy. 4 X 4 frame that I have. Since the big bolt fenders are wider I thought that it would work with the wider wheel base.

Am I barking up the wrong tree or will this work??

Are you asking if a big bolt's front fenders can be easily attached to a 1/2 ton cab and the 1/2 ton cab's "front clips"?

What year truck is a 4800 (is that the correct size)?

What size truck are the fenders coming off of?

What size truck is the cab coming off of?

What size truck is the "front clips" coming off of (and, what parts are in the front clips - grill, apron, radiator frame and cover, and hood)?

I think that the standard cab was the same on all sizes of Advance-Design trucks (47-53, and 54/55). And, that you should be able to attach everything forward of the cab (as a set from the same size truck) to any size standard cab.

Someone will correct me or clarify this soon.

well Tim what I'm looking at is taking the cab and front clip of the 49 chev. 1 1/2 ton and puting them on the other frame. what I planed on was taking the smaller wheel opening from the 53 chev. 1/2 ton and welding it into the larger wheel opening on the big bolt. hoping that it would not look so strange with the smaller 15" p/u wheels on it.

What overall size tire are you wanting to run? Since you're going with a 4x4 chassis, you might consider leaving the fenders as is if you're going to run a large tire, like a 33" or taller. before you do any alterations, try mocking it up with the final tire size mounted to see how it looks.

With the wider 4x4 gear and 3/4 ton front clip, the problem I ran into is the tires rubbing the fenders. If you account for that your plan should work fine. I'm not positive but you will probably need the big bolt hood, grille and radiator support.

That's where I was going with test fiting first, especially with larger tires. The smaller opening may cause rubbing issues even with the wider fender.

Don't plan on running any large tires on it. Just figured that the big bolt fenders would be wider,and alow for the wider front, but did not want the large opening. will do the dry fit later this summer, Just tring to figure out how it would look if anyone had a pic of it done

The big bolt fenders (4800 series) are also longer, in addition to being wider.
