I think most put a T on the oil pressure gauge hole in the block.

What you seek is in the tech tips:

Personally I will never do this modification as I believe fitting a high performance bypass filter will do a better job.

rgie,

You did not state the year and size engine (and it is not in your profile). You prior posts refer to a 261 (maybe a 1959) and a 235 (maybe a 1954).

What year and size engine?

Is the external filter a bypass or a full-flow? Only a bypass filter ban be used with the 1/8" tee off of the oil pressure gage fitting. The link that Curt provided is for the full-flow filter, using 3/8" fittings. I installed a full-flow filter using those instructions. However, subsequent research has just about convinced me that a good bypass filter may be better.

Hoyt, I am with you. I did my 54 with the full flow conversion. I am going to build my 49(with a 1954 235) with a bypass filter and plan on schedualed oil changes. These engines were built to last and the filter was an option at the time!

i am speaking mainly about the 54 235 engine
i do have a 261 however i don't know what year it is since there is nothing stamped on the pad by the dist i would do that too.
the ext oil canister was given to me plus i have another one that is currently on the 216 that i will replace with the 235 (going into a 51 3100)

i am leaning toward the bypass filter. is there a diagram of how that would be set up?
thanks

By-pass oil filter installation instructions.

For future reference: if you have a 58-63 261 USA truck block, it will be set-up to have (or, to allow you to have) a full-flow oil-filtration system.

The block/head date casting codes are not part of the engine serial number. You can find the date casting codes at the locations shown on this web page.
