It turns out that both transmissions had the holes already tapped from GM. I just had to get past 40+ yrs. of crud, keep the gears in neutral, and switch top and back plate. Does Anyone have an "extra" band adjusting screw "B", per '63 shop manual(as shown in the 2nd photo on my link). Mines missing! I jimmy rigged an inferior replacement for now. I still went out and bought some Irwin NC plug taps, they'll come in handy. Thanks again for encouraging advice. The Hell with gas mileage anyway, these old school park brakes are the way to stop! :p

Can't help you with a band adjusting screw but would like to add that "THAT'S AN EMEGENCY BRAKE"!!!!!! It's way to cool to hide under the truck. Suggest a lexan floor panel so you can watch it work!!

Glad to see everything worked out. You'll want to get some NF tap set, too. Lots of fine thread parts in theese old trucks, especially the later ones.

Wow...this place is great. I was just under my truck this morning, on a different project, and was looking at that exact brake.

Now that you have yours working and looking nice (thanks for the pics) I'll have to go back and compare to what's left on mine.

Glad I could help out Sablesurfer, I just put the stuff back together about the only way it would go. There is a picture in the 1963 chevy truck shop manual that came in hand too. Tells ya how to adjust it etc. Longbox, when I get to NF threads, I'll be buying the taps, great to have just for cleaning up old threads.
