(I've been schlepping one around the garage for a while) I think the 261's are slightly lighter than the 216's because of the lack of dippers and all the stuff that goes with it.

I would be happy with 200 h.p. That's do-able right??? What about gas milage?? As of now Iam running a mild 261 with an Borg 4 speed and 373 in the rear end with 15" tires. But Iam turn about 2900 rpm at 60-65 mph. Would like to be at about 2200-2500 at 65-70, I know at that speed disc stopper are a must in the front. Please guys talk me out of the V8. If so, I'd go with a Chevy engine and transmission. Much easier to install and parts wise. The major factor would be "resale". If and when you do sell it, you'll a larger range of "buyers" because it's Chevy thru and thru. Just my 2 cents. BTW, I have a project Burb that (hopefully) I'll be starting the conversion soon. Mounting the body on a '00 GMC chassis and running gear. Here are before and now pictures. http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=1184161&uid=687113 | | | | | Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 17 Member | | Member Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 17 | Thanks for the web site. Mucho imfo for me. The one and only reason I won't install an sbc or bbc is just because every other moving thing in this world has an sbc or bbc pushing it down the road. I had an F%#@d with a stock 371 Olds and there wasn't much that run with that old truck I know thats not a wise choice, but crazy is just another point of view.Isn't it????? Our maybe I'll build the 270 swap the gears in the rear end and be happy. Thanks everybody for the help. 1/2 ton Dave
