Most of the time it works but sometimes it "just zings" without engaging.
Any suggestions?

It sounds like it is not working all the time. The other thing that can happen is, the drive does not mesh with the flywheel teeth, but the action of your foot on the starter pedal closes the switch contacts on the motor making it spin. I didn't replace the starter drive. And it looked a little worn.I will remove the starter and see if I can find a new starter drive locally.

It is too cold here to keep on testing it.
