Hi everyone

names jeff and im from Sydney Australia

just bought myself a 1938 Chevy maple leaf 1/2 ton and a 1938 1 ton truck

planing to keep most of the original parts but upgrade some also to make it safer as its kind of dilapidated currently

trying to find some replacement leaf springs for the front and back but its rather hard to find any parts here next plan is to upgrade the steering and brakes at lest the front and smaller drums at the back as they are giant drums in the back. found some American sites that sell new parts but i might have to get some custom ones made also for things i cant find.

well that's a rough outline of my plans so if anyone could point me in the right direction of places that make or sell parts for these beautiful trucks point me in the right direction.

and here are some photos

hope the link works

and thank you all hope to make some friends and learn some new things.

Jeff

Hey Jeff...

Nice to see that a Maple Leaf has migrated all the way to Oz from Canada! grin

Not sure what your plans are for rear leaf springs but I replaced the worn ones in my '37 with leaf springs from a Chevy S-10 if that helps... much easier to find used that original equipment, so that might solve some of your problem... Hope so!

Welcome brother 38er.So what's up with the Maple Leaf logo? I also see some body differences like the ribs on the roof.

These old bolts are in my blood. Hard thing is focusing on just one.

Welcome to the Bolt!

It sounds like you have 2 trucks? Are you planning to make one out of the two, or fix both of them? Either way, it looks like an ambitious project. Good luck with it, and keep us posted on your progress.

I don't think there is a drum exchange. I bought a disc brake upgrade from CCP

Jeff...
When it was decided my rear leafs were too worn and needed to be replaced the mechanic I was dealing with told me to measure them end to end and that a local wrecking yard would be able to match them using S-10 parts... apparently there are several different lengths on different model years but just to be safe I picked up the shackles as well... a shame you don't have many S-10's there but maybe someone else has another suggestion?

If you're looking for good info on Maple Leaf Trucks find a bolter called 3B here on the site...

He is a wealth of information as he has several old maple leaf trucks and is usually happy to help... his rates are pretty high though... he insists on a "thank you" for any help given... wink lol...

If you can handle that, get in touch with him and maybe he can offer you some good advice! smile

Welcome helples, I didn't realize Maple Leaf trucks came in half ton versions, thought they were all one ton up to 3 ton. Good score and good luck finding what you need.

G'day Jeff

Emmanuel Vardos, Canberra ACT Aust.

Just joined and saw your post. Not sure how the forum sit works, I will figure that out later but I did want to say hi.

I also have a recently aquired 1938 Chevy pickup. Mine has a VS commodore back end and an L100 Mitsubushi front end which have be adapted to the 38 Chevy rather easily. This avails modern suspension, modern brakes/running gear to accommodate the 5lt motor I intend to install.

Interested to hear what you e planned for yours

Hello Jeff,

I'm new to Stovebolters and have recently obtained a '38 Chev truck and I'm in Wollongong.

Haven't even posted my profile or pics of the project.
Perhaps there might be some useful contact here.

I'm planning on taking the cab of the truck and doing
some major changes and will have some parts that I
won't be using. This is an unusual item - wide body
& long chassis. Some Chev enthusiasts coming to see
me next week fora gander

Hoping to get the profile & pics up this weekend.

Cheers -
