Ben search-en can't find what I'm looking for.I've got 2.41 gears and need to know what other gears I can use on this 8.5" carrier. or lead me to a web site on 8.5" 10 bolts Please. I think there are 3 different off sets.

Tech Note:

When replacing 2.56 and numerically lower ratio gear sets with a 2.73 or higher gear, the case must be changed to a 2.73 and higher case.

If you want to use a lower gear with the carrier you have, you will need to get a ring gear spacer. They are readily available.

Ring gear spacer? Are they a good option?

Or you can use a gear set with a thick ring gear. There are gear sets available that use a thicker ring gear that allows you to use your existing carrier.

Spacers are work fine, we used them for years before the thicker gears came out. Its a cheap way around not buying a new center section.

Any of the big name retailers (Summit, etc.) will have them in their gearing section. If I remember right, they are .200" thick. I don't know which is cheaper, spacer or thick gears. I have a 8.5" 10 bolt with a posi carrier that uses the spacer.

If you need to retain a 6 lug axle then a 73-mid 80's Chevy 1/2 or Blazer 4x4 rear axle will work.Just saw a thread on another site of the swap.The Blazer axle is 64 inches wide and the stock 50 is 62 inches by actual measurement.The slight difference of an inch on each side won't matter.
