Hi there,

I am from South Africa and recently aquired a 46 Art Deco 2 tonner (which I believed was actually built in 45), but that all needs to be checked out still. She runs beautifully, the only mechanical problem being a leaking waterpump - something I need to find a spare for. The only changes I can pick up is a 12V conversion and the previous owner resprayed her because he didn't like the original green colour (!) I intend to restore everything to as good as new over time - I will rather not put a time frame to that yust jet. Man, Your truck looks in great shape! I'm sure your going to have a lot of fun with it and you've found a great site for any info. you may need.It's wild seeing that steering wheel on the right side!

Nice truck! I can say that most of the rest of us wish we had such a good truck to start from. Speaking of the steering wheel, what would kill me is learning to shift left handed! Talk about a learning curve, double clutching and shifting left handed, wow!

What a wonderful original example. A heavy 2-tonner like that would probably have been born with the early, low oil pressure 235, as opposed to the 216. Not a lot more HP, but more torque. Can't remember how to tell one from the other . . . almost identical.

There's a lot of info for them. I find the salesman's data book particularly interesting, and very useful for specifications. It's available from the usual vendors, Jim Carter Chevy or Chev's of the '40s. The service manual is also, of course, indispensable. It's sometimes hard to tease out the details of the larger trucks in it, but it's all there.

By-the-way, I might come see your truck in person, if it doesn't warm up here in the Midwest - 15 Farenheit right now, probably dropping. South Africa sounds good.

That is a very nice truck you have there I am sure that it will bring you many hours of enjoyment. Although normal to you we all find the right hand drive intriguing here. Is it suppose to have duals on the rear?

Thanks for all the comments and info. I did expect some comments on the RHD! Fortunately the double clutching is no problem - I learned to drive in one like that - hence the yearning to get one I suppose. When I first got in for a drive it just came naturally.
Yes she will get doubles at the rear, it's the way it is supposed to be, I am in the process of finding 20" rims, got 2 allready.
The loadbed is also not original, but thanks to this wonderful site, I allready found the plans for the correct bed and will have one build when the finances allow.
The best part of this truck is that when you take it for a drive, it draws more attention than a Porche or Ferrari!
I will keep you guys posted as I go along.

Oh, nearly forgot - to Mikestem: In the cooler part of SA (where I live) daytime temps are 25 - 30°C now and in the warmer parts it regularly tops 40°C - you will have to convert to °F yourself as I do not have the conversion chart ready right now. Even in winter our daytime temps are in the region of 18 - 22 °C. Wonderful country, don't believe everything you see on the news channels.
Should you come out here sometime, I have a spare room.

Wow, that truck looks so solid. Have a good time with it. 40° C is about 105 F, but what's the humidity?
Are there many old trucks in your area?

That is in in good shape! I wish mine were that solid. Most of my resto time will be spent replacing rusty metal. Enjoy.
