All runs great except a "thumping" noise at the base of the distributor. The dist. went in fine with the gear and tang matching good. My question is, is there an o- ring or round gasket that seats at the base of the dist.where it goes into the block? My shop manual doesn't say anything about one. Thanks. | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | The one I purchased from Napa for my 235 it came with an o-ring. ...pic..click.. I dont know if the missing o ring is related to your "thumping" noise. I installed the distributor without the o-ring. You may need to investigate. May be who ever rebuit the dist used to thick of a cross section o ring
The one I replaced didnt have the o ring installed either. I have not experienced any problems so far. If I do Ill look for a replacement o ring Good Luck | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,320 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,320 | There was no O ring used originally. If there is noise coming from the distributor I would check the mechanical advance under the points plate.

Is the "thumping" sound coming fro the body of the distributor? Or, from the area where the distributor enters the block? Hoyt Hoyt | | | | Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 27 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 27 | I checked on your question and the thump or knock is both at the base of the distributor where it enters the block and anywhere else you put your listening stick on the body and cap of the distributor. The guy who rebuilt the engine (been at it for 30 years and known to be very honest) said the noise really puzzles him. | | |
