I am out of things to try....

46 1/2 ton with huck brakes.

Front left brake sticks...It has new cylinder, shoes are 25 years old or more but appear to be new (both sides for all of this info). When applied, the front left brake locks up easily and then sticks. This brake will lock up with normal application of the pedal while the others work fine. If you are at a stop sign, ya have to let it roll back to unlock. I reajusted all the brakes. The other three work fine, but this one still sticks. I had it apart twice, making sure everything was put together correctly. It appears to be put together correctly. Master cylinder has been rebuilt, new lines, new hoses, no leaks, pedal is firm after a nice amount of travel and works...bleeding seems to have worked correctly....it does not stick when on jack stands or up on the jack....

ideas? Suggestions?

I have a similar situation and I was told that if the axle or brakes ever leaked, that it will impregnate the shoe material and cause it to stick/lock. The shoes will look fine. You have to fix the leak if it is still there and replace the shoes.

I had a set of brake shoes on the shelf...I installed the fronts. The front left cured right up. Still a little binding in the back, so I guess I have another project ahead....

Thanks for the tip Fabled 48. The shoes looked like new but I guess after 25 years in storage, they absorbed some wheel grease....

it doesn't take much... mine were turning freely when I took it off the trailer a week ago, and were stuck yesterday after they got some greese down in there... got it free... but looks like new shoes for Gus.

Update on all my brake issues.

I finally got around to getting new shoes on the corners. Wow...what a change. All of my brake issues cleared right up. Just another example of "just because a part looks good, does not mean it still is"...

Rear shoes were thick as new, but must have been saturated with grease and oil.

New brake shoes made all of the difference. If anyone is just getting started on an old bolt, replace all of your brake parts....it's worth the money and piece of mind (not to mention SAFETY as most important).

Thanks for all the tips folks.
