There is a "bar" on the rear driver side brake connecting the shoes at the top of the assembly. It is a bar with slots at the end. I was told alternately it was a "strut" for the hand brake or a "spreader" for the shoes, any ideas? Restoring 1950, 5 window, 1/2 ton, in family since new. Never done one before.
| | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 | When you set the emergency or hand brake a cable pulls the rear shoe forward pushing through that piece to the front shoe which makes the emergency brake work. That is why they work better for rolling forward than backward.
