I see a lot of rheostat knob styles from chevys of the 40s and other places. However on this 52 the switch is a white toggle switch placed under the dash to the left of the steering column. The switch is white and when flipped one way it has no lettering on it. When flipped the other way it says air. The toggle is up and down. Anyone know if this is original (doubt it) or if this could be from a later model or even a passenger car?
What does the original switch look like?

My '38 has a rheostat of a different color. I much prefer the rheostat because it give me infinite speed adjustment, not just two or three speeds.

They are manufactured by a company called Cole-Hersee and they are still in business. You can still find them NOS on places like eBay $$. The other styles mentioned do not appear in any of the factory literature I have while this style does. Here is a picture of a switch on a 54 this is the correct location for the heater switch the dash is drilled here for two switches to go side by side one for the heater another for options like vacuum pump, fog lites, etc. http://community.webshots.com/photo/2503692070102454676pgoIoi

I am tryign to figure out what is original and what isn't you can;t take anything for face value since the truck does has an olds hood ornament on it after all. LOL
