Hello everyone, Chase here from Pennsylvania. Im 20 years old and alwaays loved the old chevys. I just recently bought a 48 1.5 ton flatbed from a friend. I have a quick question im hoping someone can answer. What is the spark plug gap supposed to be as well as the points gap?Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Dude, Save yourself a lot of heartache and buy a Pertronix Ignitor and ditch the points! Combined with a "Flamethrower" coil you'll never have to worry about your points again and it'll start on a dime! Is your engine a 235 low or high pressure?

If you would like to ID your engine (someone might have changed it a few times over the years), find the codes shown on this page and post them here. People will show you how to interpret the codes (and will show you on-line resources that will be useful to you).

Here are a few useful resources:

1948 Chevrolet Truck Operator's Manual

1948-1951(1952) Chevrolet Truck Shop Manual

well i found out it wasnt the original engine afterall. The current engine was out of a 1947 that had been burned in a combine fire. The engine was ok, so this 48 was bought with a bad engine. They swapped the good engine out of the 47 and put it in the 48 which is what i have now.

Thanks for the links for the engine codes. Once i take the time to write it down ill post it. I have it running, and it runs great. Right now im getting the wheel cylinders redone so it should be able to be driven around the yard sometime soon.
