For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 5 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 5 | Hi, What a great website here. I have been reading and learning all about trucks here for a couple years and finally signed up today. I recently purchased a 1964 C-20 to fix up for a daily driver and found a couple thing I need to find out about. I would really appreciate any help you guys can give me.
First is the rear end. I know it has been changed because the rear wheels only have 5 lugs and I can see where there have been welded mounts removed from the top of the axle tubes. It is a 10 bolt differential, here is what I find on it. BR3 G026 2 on the passenger side axle tube 14055251 on the housing A 204 on the housing GM 31 on the housing It seems to be kind of high geared with the TH 350 transmission. Thanks in advance, I will try to contribute to the forums as much as I can. Bruce: Las Vegas, Nevada.

If it's a C10 there's alot of choices for gearing. A C20 would of had 8 lugs and a C10 would have 6. The 5 lug would be from either a newer C10 or a large car, I don't have the resources to decipher your info.

It has the 8 lug 3/4 ton front end and also has C-20 badges. The previous owner told me he thought the rear end had been changed out but he didn't know what it is. I need to figure out what the V8 engine is also as I don't think it is the original. Thanks: Bruce. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 39 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 39 | Welcome 2X64. I have a 72 350 in my 66. So you are proabably right about your engine. Is it running as it is right now? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 5 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 5 | Not running now as I am in the middle of taking the truck apart for restoration. I have another 64 with a 283 that is quite different. It has a Different distributer, spark plugs, fuel pump and has a manual choke carb. The other truck is a C30 so it may have a truck engine. Regarding your rearend, pull the pumpkin cover and count the teeth on the ring gear and the pinion gear...divide the big number by the small number and the result will tell you the ratio. Measure the outside diameter of the ring gear for an indication of the rearend model you have. Also, measure from the outside of one lug, to the center of the third lug, to determine the bolt circle...for example 5 on 5 or 5 on 5-1/2 or 5 on 5-3/4. This information will tell you alot about the rearend you currently have.
I hope this information is helpful and thanks for joining the stovebolt. | | |
