I think I'll mount a hood light with a mercury switch. Has anyone done this? I suppose any switch would work.

I installed one from a wrecking yard, GM pickup. The switch was built in the fixture. Just run power to it and mount.

I've installed those. Just be sure that the bracket the holds the light is installed at the correct angle so the light doesn't stay on when you close the hood. It may required a little fine tuning, but isn't difficult.

Doesn't the vibration or bumps, and g-forces from driving make the light go on and off ?

You will have to hide under the hood while your buddy drives to see. Sorta like the refrigerator light dang

Well really, you can just hook up the light outside the hood and see when it goes on.

andy46 -No, the vibrations, bumps, etc do not make the light come on unless the hood opens.

You have done what
Hide under hood while buddy drives - awful trusting soul - I would be looking for big and deep mud puddle. Not sure if I would do it but I will confess to thinking about it.

I was 17 at the time and like all 17 year old's, an idiot. The exhaust manifold got pretty hot!

Have used several, a little adjusting and they work well.

Don't leave the door open in the photo dark room. All the dark will leak out!
