| | | | Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 30 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 30 | Putting a 73 400 small block, and 700r4 trans in my 59 gmc. The external balance flexplate I have has 139 teeth. I am trying to figure out what application to look for a starter. The 73 chevys with a 400 have 168 tooth flexplates. I know 6.2 deisels used a 139 tooth flexplate--but starter wont fit a small block. Anybody have any ideas on what starter will work?

Does your engine use the starter with diagonal or parallel bolt holes in the block? I had a 250 with 153 tooth flywheel and in order to use the 168 tooth flywheel I used the starter off a 350. | | |
