Took the 4400 truck for a drive to enjoy the warm weather we are having between cold fronts.Rode around about 45 minutes no problems that's the longest adventure the truck and I have been on.Then two blocks from the house a police car passes me and turns around .Now I'm one block from home and pulled over on the side of the road.Officer asks if I have my seat belt on ? Well no truck doesn't have them never did.Next question where's your inspection sticker ? Truck has a antique plate and only one plate is required ,no inspection sticker required with it.He really isn't believing me from the look on his face.Asks for license and registration had it in my hand waiting to give them to him ,he takes them and goes to his car forever .Now there's another officer here Highway patrol ,oboy !Asks me to get out ,I think this isn't good at all!He asks same questions then one new question why don't you have mudflaps ? Just haven't put them on yet .They let me go after there education and no ticket or warning for me smile My wife told me she drove buy also ! I asked what if was broke down you didn't stop to ask ,She said you had help there .Glad it will be cold again soon smile Time to get the mudflaps installed .

Those bastards have nothing better to do than harass people for trivial little things like that! It's all about the money anymore, and they truely have a license to steal. I have very little respect for most of them. It's really sad that what used to be "to serve, and protect" has become "to serve tickets, so that we can get more money for our district" I'm not saying we don't need them......just saying it's become very mis-guided.

I had a something similar happen recently when driving my '52 COE. Luckily the Highway Patrol officer had a '56 Belair and just wanted to talk old cars. I could easily see it going the other way though. Thankfully, I have farm tags on mine and as long as it's actully being used for that purpose there isn't much they can say from a legal standpoint.

Great story!!
In the last 25 years I have been pulled over only twice. Once in the city and the cop just wanted to check out what I was driving, did not ask for a drivers license or nothing, talked to him for least an half hour about Jeeps.
Second time, the state cops had a road block set up on a side road and just wanted to see my insurance papers, they let me go faster than if I was sitting at a trafic light. Both vehicles had historic plates and nothing was said.
Knock on wood, I have always got along with cops and have had only a couple of tickets in my life. Even the two times I had to spend the night with them,(was not driving and probably deserved it) they were respectful and treated me well under the circumstances.
Those stories we'll save for around the pool at the KC reunion.

Eventhough my brother is a cop I hate it when they abuse their authority or make you a learning experience on the side of the road. My thought is too, that if you get pulled over for something that is not against the law they don't have cause to ask for your license and registration. If they did not know it was acceptable that you don't need an inspection sticker or 2 plates is no excuse. You don't see too many cops letting people go for not knowing the laws do you? So why should they be allowed to halt us from our activities due to their own ignorance? Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now....

I was very glad that they did stop me .I see plenty of new cars with one tag, none or no inspection or registration sticker here in Texas. My brother is also a officer of the law along with many friends .They have all my respect and I wouldn't want to deal with the people they do daily .It's normally the lowest of the low people .I just wanted fellow stovebolters to be aware of the one license plate ,no registration and inspection stickers not required with a antique tag here in Texas that it will bring attention to you so be polite and ready .

that was just an a-hole cop. he wanted to get you for something, that's why he took so long at his car. i know not all cops are like that, but they get a bad name from those that were given swirlies and wedgies in high school. mudflaps? come on. -DVZ

yes, deathtrap, mudflaps - knowing details of the MV equipment code is useful - you may go your whole life without having a dually fling a good size rock into your windshield [or your "rescue" career without cleaning up the aftermath], but I bet you'd be right choked if it happened to you .... and pay attention that Webster noted he got no tickets, you might not be so lucky wink
