For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 68 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 68 | it's not done yet, but it started as a 1 1/2 ton hay hauler flat bed. frame has been shortened (obviously) and i took 4 leafs out of the front to lower front end. as you guys know w/ the big bolt, parts are difficult at best to find. "fits 1/2 ton only" sound familiar to you.... I'll post more as it comes along. -DVZ http://s1231.photobucket.com/albums/ee502/dvzdeathtrap/ | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 | Looking at your front axle dust caps, i'd say your truck started out life as a 16000lb. gvw 2 ton. Neat 'lil rig. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 68 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 68 | possibly. i bought it from a friend at work whos father died about 2 years ago. no one else in the family really knows much about the truck. it just says 1 1/2 ton on the title. i love how solid it is though. they REALLY don't make em' like they used to. -DVZ | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 | Yeah, The 2 ton trucks have bolt on dust caps, the 1 1/2 ton have press on caps. Also check your ID plate in the driver door jamb. If it's 16000lb. gvw it's 2 ton, 14000lb. 1 1/2 ton, regardless to what the title says. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 68 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 68 | good to know. thanks. -DVZ | | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 186 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 186 | Thats a cool truck you got there.. did you shorten it or was it that way when you got it? Yeah, The 2 ton trucks have bolt on dust caps, the 1 1/2 ton have press on caps. Also check your ID plate in the driver door jamb. If it's 16000lb. gvw it's 2 ton, 14000lb. 1 1/2 ton, regardless to what the title says. does this apply to all years of trucks.. my 36 has bolt on caps.. but was told it was a 1.5 ton as well.. ??? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 68 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 68 | i appreciate that. no the guy that owned it before me shortened it. That was my original plan when i was going to look at it, before i saw it. It's shorter than what i would have done, but oh, well. it's different. -DVZ | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 | Nope, Dust cap theory doesn't apply to your '36 model. Chevrolet's first 2 ton rated truck wasn't until 1946. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy Guys, this may get lost here, but the 1 1/2 ton dust caps with the eight sided head SCREW into the hub, they are not pressed in, very fine thread but definately SCREW in, hope that helps. | | |
