Any thoughts out there about using Flange style nuts to replace old nuts on 54 3800 Dually ?

Would like to replace 1/2 - 20 lug nuts.

Quick search seems to tell me lower grade nut to higher grade bolt ?

lower grade nut & higher grade bolt is correct. that way the nut (which is easier to replace) strips before the wheel stud. the flanges on the newer style nuts would perform the same task as the ring that's probably under your lug nuts now. I don't think one way would be any better than the other, it would just depend on what you like & what you want.

just checked out your photobucket shots. that truck is beyond COOL! I really like the bed, looks really versatile. does it dump? are you going to use the NV4500 with the pto drive in it? keep us updated it looks like a really neat project.

Hi bluechev...thanks for your feedback. The PO had standard nuts with thick fender washers, I don't like that setup much. Don't have the large ring, so I thought the flange nuts was the best choice. Just didn't know if "LUG NUTS" are graded...3,5,8

Yes it does dump, have to put some updated pics online. I have a 292 to go with the NV4500. Could go with mechanical PTO or use the Elec/Hydr PTO that is on the NV4500...still think about that.

Have been working on brakes lately...added dual master & updated the fronts. All new in the rear last year.

cool, I've got a booster/master from a 67 1 ton I'm going to put on my truck pretty soon. you can get 1/2" 20 grade 5 flanged nuts ( typically called "wiz nuts") from any nut & bolt supply house.

Thanks Robert...Are you installing the '67 booster/master under the floor ? I'm looking at Wilwood master with remote resevoirs. I plan on doing the Dodge Disc/caliper upgrade in the near future and move the battery to frame behind cab. RE: full floor carpet. Don't know if I will use a booster yet.

I've have a good local hardware store that has the Flange nuts, on my list for this week.
