| | THANKS!
For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 4 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 4 | Hi here's my 49 Chevy 3600 4x4 Napco. It started out as a 3100, when I got it the motor and transmission were gone. It needed some serious updating. I decided to do a frame swap and began searching for a S10. A friend came across a rolled over 2000 S10 with the ZR2 package and only 18,000 miles at an auction. I quickly searched online for someone that had done the swap. None could be found. I kept seeing refferences to why it wouldn't work, but my tape measure was telling me different. So I decided to go for it. Three hours later I owned a low milage donner chasis with running gear. It took a winter to figure it out, and the next winter to put it together. This is my first build. I set it up to look like what a Napco conversion would have looked like in 1949. Painted it to look farm fresh with just a little dust. It has a stock 4.3, automatic and gets about 20 mpg. My grandkids love it! I'll contiume to work on it this winter. The picture gives you my youngest grandsons impression of his first ride. I feel the same way inside! http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k491/Gary_Hammerlund/49GrampsReece.jpg

Some of the purist among us may not be so enthusiastic, but I admire the ingenuity. If you haven't already please submit pictures and article to the gallery. Believe me, I know how you and your grandson feel. Enjoy your truck, Safely!

And on a scale of 1 to 10 how difficult was the entire project 1 being easy and 10 making you want to kick the dog difficult? | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | 49ZR2, nicely and tastefull done. And I'll bet you kept the A/C from the S-10 to keep them grandkids cool when summer gets here!! Congratulations.

I started the project with pure thoughts, and after looking at the cost of being a purist I wasn't so enthusiastic. svnuccadoc, yes I used the ZR2 frame, motor & running gear, disk brakes, even kept the rims & tires for now. The most difficult part was getting started. To get started I made a checklist of things I could do or thought I could do, and a list of things I needed help with. Then I started doing the things I could do. Never felt like kicking the dog though. This was my first build, and I even had to learn how to weld again. The internet is a wonderful thing! Achipmonk, I did keep the A/C unit, I haven't hooked it up yet though, I like riding slow with the windows down.
I put some new windshield glass and a new seal in last night. I've got a number of small things to do this winter. Looking forward to Wednesday nights in the garage again! | | |
