I think you have to rotate the crank and cam until the timing marks on the gears are aligned with each other then it will pull out. There may be another problem though. Good luck.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dean | | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 695 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 695 | 1. Remove all of the lifters and fuel pump. They can interfere with the cam lobes and journals. 2. Remove the distributor. 3. Remove the screws from the cam thrust plate behind the timing gear. 4. Make sure the crank is oriented to clear the cam. If the cam isn't stuck solid in it's bearings, I can't think af any other thing that could be restricting. Hopefully it's just an oversight and you've already discovered it. Good luck. Just work with it a while. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | Maybe there is something unusual in there that is out of place. I would try looking from the bottom too. If a lobe were hitting something, maybe turning the cam would give you a clue. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 1,107 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 1,107 | if your tearing it down for a build then just put a pry bar between the back of the cam gear and the front of the block and and apply some leverage on it to see what gives. the gear, thrust plate, cam and bearings are junk anyway just dont mess up the block. maybe the bearings are worn as such to have a lip on the them thus preventing it to slide out ??? | | |
