Was wondering if anyone was running Tom Langdons Carter/Weber carbs, adaptors and linkage on their 235's on an Offenhauser intake? I'm using his single Holly/Weber setup on my current 56 stock engine and it's absolutely great! My 1960-235 engine, which is in the build shop, will get a CS-6 torque cam, has been bored.060 and fully balanced. It will pull through a T5 w/.72 od to a 3.42 diff with 29" tall tires. Normal cruise rpm's will be 2000 at about 65 mph.

If you've had any experience with the Carter/Weber setup, I would appreciate your input.

Nice truck! I don't have any experience with the Carter/Webers but I can recommend Langdon's mini-HEI ignition. Set the timing once and forget it. Keep up the good work.

I've got those carbs on my truck now. Same setup that you asked about. I have trouble getting them tuned but I finally found out that the gaskets between the adaptor and carb was allowing vacuum to leak. I made a new set of gaskets and they run great right now. I think Tom knows that older setups had bad gaskets and he's sending the right ones out now.

I have had other problems with my 57 TF that kept me from driving much at the end of the year. I can't wait to get her on the road next spring.

Yep...the Mini-HEI is going on after the initial run-in with the stock intake/single Holly/Weber and distributor. I've got them dialed in so will take no chances with cam problems and seating the rings.

Was wondering Jerry, if you were running the stock cam in your 57, headers, and which intake?
I don't think engine vacuum is going to be an issue as everything in the head is getting replaced and I'm going to use the "no gap" rings....hope they prove to be worth the extra coin. However, I'll make sure that Tom gets me the correct gaskets for the Offy setup.

I appreciate both your responses.

"Zero-gap" rings are extremely hard on cylinder walls, resulting in a "barrel-shaped" wear pattern with the majority of the wear about the middle of the piston travel. Unless you're running alcohol/nitromethane fuel and are concerned about the explosive hazard of a mixture of nitro and hot lubricating oil, I can't see a good reason for the expense and wear problems associated with that type of ring. One of my roundtrack race engine customers insisted on them, and wore the cylinders to the point of ruining the block in one race season, about 800 miles of full-throttle operation on a 5/8 mile round track.

Interesting information. I didn't spec the No-Gap rings....imagine he's aware that I probably won't be running that much nitromethane in the old truck!!!

He did mention that proper break-in was critical. His shop builds up some pretty radical engines so I will tactfully gather a bit more info. Don't want to step on any toes, as I'm by no means, that well versed in high performance engines, but I wholeheartedly agree that there is no earthly reason for building in any future problems.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Fla54....if you do a Search on Carter Weber you'll find a lot of threads. Very common setup.

I run the exact setup you describe on a '58 235 and running 3.55 gears. After a big hassle with the wrong gaskets...I love 'em. They give me good fuel mileage (14 around town with the temp in the high 20s). The electric chokes are excellent.

To start my truck, I stab the accelertor once and hit it. It immediately starts on fast idle and then, when warmed up it eases out of fast idle.

Tom Langdon is one of the most knowlegeable and willing to help vendors I have dealt with.
