HI there group, I had a guy put a 14 bolt rear end with 8 lug wheels nuts, under
my 1 ton truck from a 1973 truck and it is way to wide. From rim monting face to
the other one is 67.5 inches long and my orginal one is 62.5 long.

What year and type would work under my truck with a GVW of 8800 Lbs with 41.5
inch center to center leaf springs and an open drive shaft. He but 3.75 gears in it and moved the leaf spring perches. So that could be done again.

Is there and 14 bolt that is shorter and closer to my old 62.5 inch length. or is there any other type that will work like aDana 60, 70, 80?

Please help. I`m not looking at a 1/2 ton units or anything from Patrics. They
can not help me.

Thanks Gerry

Try checking under full size vans, they tend to be narrower that the pickups. I know for sure that one from a '70-'80s (maybe even newer) Dodge 3/4 or 1 ton van will fit. That one would be a Dana 60, and a 3.55 gear is common in them. Just be carefull on which one you get, as many of them are semi-float instead of full float like the 14 bolt. Same goes for looking at Chevrolet vans, especially the G20 8 lug. There's 2 different 14 bolts, a 10.5" ring gear full floater, and a 9.5" ring gear semi float.

I had same problem. Paid a fool $200 to narrow a 14 bolt to fit under my 63chevy . when the muppet was done the rear end stuck out 3.5 inches on the driver side. Gathered up a complete second set of parts and went to a pro. $700 dollars later I had what i was expecting included in that 700 was a pair of super dooper steel axles.

My origional eaton was a 456 this one was a 373,

your 1 ton rear is the way to go. indestructable and cheap.

A 14 bolt from a Cab and Chassis truck is in the neighborhood of 63" wide.
I have one (measures 62.75") ready to swap into my 52 1 ton and see no major issues.
Even so.. the small things that need to be done are a whole lot simpler than narrowing a whole axle...
Narrowing seems very unnecessary when there are already narrow ones out there.

Have you checked out this thread about my plans yet??
