I have a '37 half ton (GC) but do not have proper rear bumper mounts. As a result, I do not know how far away from the frame rails the rear bumper is offset. Does anyone have a dimension for top-of-framerail (at rear of frame) to bottom edge of bumper, when the bumper is mounted on proper brackets? Thanks in advance.

On my 37 (GC), which is set up with all original and stock parts, it is 6-1/4" from the top of the top frame rail to the bottom of the bumper.

Reproduction bumper brackets are available,I had to get both the front and back for my 37.

Jeff's comment might need to be considered if you will be working with reproduction brackets. Reproductions are possibly not exactly the same as originals. The brackets on my truck are the same brackets that were used by Ron Wade when he decided to copy 37 Chevrolet pickup truck brackets. That's not to say the others aren't as good, but you might want to allow yourself some "wiggle" room for your layout of the brackets, or better, get the brackets before you move on the the next item on the list.

I asked because I need to position the tailpipes as I build my exhaust. I promise to leave some wiggle room. I've actually considered just welding up my own brackets, since I already have the "spring-bows" that bolt on attached to the bumper, and only need the "hanger" parts of the bracket system. If I could buy just the hangers, I'd be a lot more interested in a set of new or not-so-new brackets. The pricing I've seen on complete bracket sets just seems a little high to me, especially considering that I only need about half of a set. I guess it's the Scot in me . . .

Jeff - I took a look at your truck here on Stovebolt as well, and you mentioned that you had auxiliary springs. I've only ever seen those on a '37 GMC I once looked to buy as a parts vehicle. I didn't buy it, but the springs looked like they'd make the truck more like a 3/4 ton. I bet that setup is pretty rare.

For what its worth PATM I have seen (one) 1937 that had a set of auxilliary springs and at least appeared to be factory original along with a couple other things making me think "heavy duty" or overload springs. But, over the years someone could have changed the rear end out.

If you have the parts that bolt to the bumper I have a extra set of the parts that go on the frame,mine had them on it and when you buy the bracket set they come will all of them. The reproduction brackets fit very well and bolted up to my original bumpers just fine,cant remember who manufactured them but bought them locally from a vendor. The auxillary springs have since been removed and I noticed they had GC stamped on a couple parts so they had to be factory or dealer installed but found no info on them in a dealer catalog I have.
