I have seen pictures of a few AD trucks with what appear to turn signals mounted on the top of the front fenders. Is there further info. available on this: brand, size, style, how wired, parts availability today, etc. I have a '48 Chevy 1/2 ton p.u. Thanks.

Lots of manufacturers Guide, Yankee, Detroit Signal, and others. My 47-48 Truck data book does not mention them as dealer installed but they are shown as arrow style in the 49' book and mentioned again in the 51' and 54' books. Search on eBay there are lots of styles available at wildly varying prices arrow atyle are expensive plain yellow or red lens style not as much. They do pop up infrequently as NOS 54 style in the original 4-lamp kits with wiring and brackets etc. Look to spend $200 or more on something like that.

I like your truck.

I plan to buy the 'conversion kit' for my front running lights. That way I will have the two filiment bulbs. Running lights and turn signals. I believe most of the major vendors sell these kits.

I have installed a conversion kit for the front running lights and have added a new chrome turn-signal switch. Would really like use an original--like a really nice SignalStat 900! I believe the Fender mounted turn signals are cool.

Most likely a Factory Accessory Installation Manuals will have instructions for fender-mounted TRUCK TURN SIGNALS (1948 should be similar to 1949).

You might want to keep a bookmark for this on-line 1951 Accessory Installation manual
Look for SIGNAL - Direction, Truck : 986360, page 80 - these instructions should also be OK for a 1948 truck.

I ended up locating and installing a nice used Guide 6004 t.s. signal switch w/ bracket after having it rewired with "old school" cloth wire. I also installed Guide fender-mounted lights on the front, and used NOS Guide lights with brackets for the rear. A fellow Stovebolter made those all available to me.
